Rhino was used to create a highly detailed 3D model of the Walkley House, including intricate structural elements, internal furnishings and all landscaping elements. Unreal Engine was used to add depth and ambiance to create photorealistic renders; shadows playing a pivotal role in highlighting the home’s uniqueness and openness. Revit and Photoshop were used to create the atmospheric floor plans.

In my design approach for Walkley House, I aimed to encapsulate the architectural uniqueness of this historic building by using a combination of Rhino, Unreal Engine and Photoshop. The design process revolved around three key elements: shadows, glass, and the concept of “floating.”
To begin, I utilized Rhino to create a highly detailed 3D model of The Walkley House. This software allowed me to accurately replicate the building’s intricate features, capturing its historical charm and character. I modelled the structure and its surroundings, setting the stage for an immersive representation. Incorporating Unreal Engine into my workflow was essential for bringing Walkley House to life. Unreal Engine enabled me to simulate realistic lighting conditions and dynamic shadows, adding depth and ambiance to the visualization. Shadows played a pivotal role in highlighting the building’s architectural uniqueness, showcasing its interplay with the surrounding environment and the passage of time.
The use of glass in the design accented the transparency and openness of Walkley House. I carefully integrated glass elements that represented the building’s large windows and contemporary design elements. The reflective and translucent properties of the glass accented the building’s connection with its surroundings, letting in natural light and reflecting the environment.
The concept of “floating” was introduced through the design of structural elements and materials that gave Walkley House a sense of weight-lessness. This floating quality added a modern twist to the historic structure, making it feel ethereal and timeless. By utilizing Unreal Engine, I was able to create dynamic and immersive experiences that emphasized the building’s unique architectural features.
Overall, the design approach for The Walkley House in North Adelaide integrated the use of Rhino, Unreal Engine, and Photoshop to emphasize shadows, glass, and the concept of “floating.” This allowed me to showcase the architectural uniqueness of the building, capturing its historical significance while infusing it with a modern, immersive quality.
