“Sustainability is not only about the environment; it is about people, place, and community thriving together..”
Regenerative Living Village Goodwood
Design Studio Environment| June 2025
This proposal revitalises the Goodwood Community Centre through adaptive reuse of the existing heritage-listed library and adjoining church. Rather than demolish, these buildings are sensitively integrated into the broader precinct, preserving local memory and community, while creating new social connections and activity.
The design supports passive environmental performance with material selections that include textured hempcrete walls, CLT structure, and sunshading. Planting and soft thresholds along Florence Street open the site up to the community, encouraging gathering, movement and permeable circulation pathways.
Kaurna connection to Country is expressed through nature and native edible planting. Curved building forms reference the Kaurna connectionsBrownhill Creek. Community connection is central, and the open-air spaces, flexible interiors, and social programming reflect this focus.
The project prioritises all aspects of sustainability, inclusion and respect for history, creating a response to community and place.
